Compatibility data and methodology

WorksTogether answers one question: do two specific tech products work together? Every answer is based on specifications published by the products' manufacturers, and every product page and compatibility page links to those official sources.

What WorksTogether checks

  • Laptop charging: a power adapter's connector, maximum output (W) and charging protocol against the laptop's charging port and recommended adapter power.
  • Phone wired charging: connector and charging protocol (USB Power Delivery, PPS) on both sides, plus power where stated.
  • Wireless charging: Qi, Qi2 and MagSafe support and wireless output on both sides.
  • RAM upgrades: memory type (DDR4 / DDR5), form factor (SO-DIMM), capacity, speed and ECC against the laptop's slots, maximum capacity and supported speeds.
  • SSD upgrades: interface (NVMe / SATA), form factor (M.2 2230 / 2242 / 2280, 2.5-inch), PCIe generation and capacity against the laptop's storage slots.

Official manufacturer data only

  • Specifications come only from the manufacturer's own website or official specification service. Retailer listings, reviews and forums are never used.
  • A value is recorded only when the official page states it. Nothing is inferred from product names, and no language model extracts or writes specifications.
  • Every stored specification is linked to the official page it came from, and each page records when it was last verified.
  • Pairs without enough verified specifications are answered unknown instead of being guessed.

How verdicts are produced

WorksTogether compares verified manufacturer specifications only. For charging compatibility (laptops, phones and wireless chargers), a constrained evaluation model analyzes those verified facts using a fixed set of compatibility questions; it cannot add or assume missing specifications. RAM and SSD compatibility use deterministic technical rules. When the available evidence is insufficient, WorksTogether returns “Unknown” instead of guessing.

  • Evidence gate first. A pair is evaluated only when a real compatibility dimension is verified on both products (for example the connector on both sides, a wireless standard on both sides, or memory type and form factor on both sides).
  • Verdicts are cached against the exact verified specifications and logic version; if a specification changes, the cached verdict no longer applies and a published page built on it is withdrawn until it is re-checked.

What the answers mean

Compatible
— the verified specifications match for this use.
Partially compatible
— it works with a stated limitation (for example a lower-wattage charger charges more slowly, or a faster SSD runs at the slot's PCIe speed).
Not compatible
— a verified specification rules it out (for example DDR4 in a DDR5 slot).
Unknown
— insufficient verified evidence. It is not a negative answer; it means the official data does not settle the question.

Limitations

  • Answers cover the specific products named, not product families or regional variants.
  • Only what manufacturers publish can be compared; firmware, BIOS whitelists, cables and accessories are not evaluated.
  • An ECC memory module is only judged against a laptop whose ECC support is verified; otherwise the answer is unknown.
  • Published compatibility pages are a curated subset; any pair of catalog products can be checked on the homepage.
