iPhone charger compatibility by model

Which charger does your iPhone need? Apple's recommended USB-C adapter power and MagSafe/Qi2 support for iPhone 16, 17, Air and 18, with verified checks.

In short

  • Every iPhone in this guide charges over USB-C (verified on Apple's Tech Specs pages).
  • For fast wired charging, Apple lists a 20–60 W USB-C power adapter or higher, depending on the model (table below). If the charger is otherwise compatible, a lower wattage may result in slower charging.
  • MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging is verified on 9 models, up to 15–25 W depending on the model. A charger's wireless wattage label does not raise the iPhone's own maximum.
  • Pick your model below for its full specs, or open an exact charger check to see the verdict and its official sources.

Catalog figures on this page are live from the WorksTogether database.

Choosing a charger for your iPhone

  • Wired: a USB-C power adapter and a USB-C cable. Compare the adapter's maximum output with the wattage Apple lists for your model.
  • Multi-port chargers share their total output between ports, so check the power available on the port you use.
  • Wireless: MagSafe or Qi2 on both the charger and the iPhone for magnetic alignment; the iPhone's own maximum sets the speed, and the charger needs a strong enough power adapter.
  • A verdict of “Partially compatible” means the pair works with a stated limitation, such as a charger below the recommended power.

The details behind these rules — USB Power Delivery, cable limits, Qi2 vs MagSafe — are in the USB-C charger guide and the wireless charging guide.

Official Apple sources

Every figure above is read from the model's official Apple Tech Specs page and recorded only when that page states it explicitly; nothing is inferred from product names or retailer listings. WorksTogether verdicts use these verified specifications only, and a pair without enough shared verified evidence is not published.
