Update (October 17, 2026): Added the shared Apple ID requirement and details on setting up Handoff and switching the active iPhone.
What changed
Verizon has confirmed pricing for iPhone Handoff, setting the charge at $10 per month. The carrier disclosed the price in its iPhone Duo announcement and says support is coming soon.
Apple's iOS 27 feature lets a single phone number be shared across two separate iPhones. Users can switch between a main phone and a companion phone, although the number can be active on only one device at a time.
Apple initially announced support from T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom, with Verizon and EE expected to follow before the end of the year.
Markets and plans affected
Verizon says Handoff will be available on compatible iPhone models running iOS 27. Its announcement specifically identifies the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro models, and says customers can switch active status between devices while retaining access to its 5G network.
Engadget reports that both iPhones must run iOS 27 and share the same Apple ID. To set up Handoff, users open Settings on the newer phone, select Cellular, then Set up Cellular or Add eSIM, followed by iPhone, Continue and Transfer.
After setup, unlocking the iPhone the user wants to use switches the active device and displays a “Switched to this iPhone” message, Engadget reports. Calls, messages and Find My move to that device, while iCloud backups stay synchronized. Apple advises setting passcodes on both phones to control which one actively uses the number.
In the UK, EE says iPhone Handoff is coming soon. The carrier will include it with Full Works Plus, while other customers can add it for £5 per month on a rolling contract.
Deutsche Telekom in Germany already supports Handoff through its MultiSIM service. The monthly price is €6.95 unless included in the customer's plan; MacRumors identifies MagentaMobil L and XL as plans that include it without an additional charge.
How competitors price it
T-Mobile's existing $5 monthly fee is half Verizon's announced charge. EE and Deutsche Telekom also offer plan-based inclusion rather than a separate fee for every customer.
| Carrier | Monthly Handoff price | Plan inclusion | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verizon | $10 | Not specified | Coming soon |
| T-Mobile | $5 | Not specified | Already supported |
| EE | £5 when not included | Included with Full Works Plus | Coming soon |
| Deutsche Telekom | €6.95 when not included | Included with MagentaMobil L and XL | Already supported |
Why it matters
Higher recurring cost
Verizon customers will face a monthly Handoff charge twice as high as T-Mobile's for sharing a number across two compatible iPhones.
Switching, not simultaneous service
Users can move the active number between a main and companion iPhone, but cannot keep that number active on both phones simultaneously.
Plan-dependent value
EE and Deutsche Telekom include Handoff in certain plans, making the separate charge dependent on the customer's carrier and subscription.
Alternatives and impact
AT&T has not announced imminent Handoff support. When asked about the feature, the carrier acknowledged its potential benefits but said it was focused on its existing eSIM activation and transfer options instead.
What remains unclear
- What exact date will Verizon activate iPhone Handoff? Verizon says only that support is coming soon, while Apple previously said it would arrive before the end of the year.
